How to Install or Upgrade RAM on a Macbook Pro

When I bought my Macbook Pro earlier this year, I opted to go with just 4GB of pre-installed RAM to get my Macbook at a lower price. 4GB of RAM is pretty good, but to maximize my Macbook Pro’s potential, I decided to upgrade it to 8GB last night… on my own! This was very scary to do for a few reasons;

  1. I’m not a hardware guy at all
  2. I don’t know what I’m doing because of the reason above
  3. Any hardware tampering voids the manufacturer’s warranty

… so I decided to upgrade the RAM on my own, HA! I was nervous beyond description but, you know what? It was actually very intuitive, very simple, and not bad at all! Just in case I ruined anything, I decided to document my little operation with a couple cameras and, since nothing bad happened on my very first try, I decided to put together a “how-to” video on RAM installation. Here’s the video.

Touch Screen Vending Machine

While at the mall today, I came across this new touch screen vending machine — I HAD to try it out! Until you take a closer look and see the dispenser tray and money slot, the new-age vending machine looks just like a monitor (which it is) that’s displaying ads. It also takes credit cards.

You don’t get that mechanical sound of an old school vending machine until your product drops into the bottom receiving tray, but the whole “touch screen” experience on a vending machine is really something else. To browse the products on this particular vending machine, I just touched buttons on either side of the screen to scroll through each product. Each product displays a unique and enticing animation. It’s apparent now that touch screen technology is everywhere — even on cars! Anyway, here’s a video of my experience with a touch screen vending machine.

Homemade Fruit Fly Trap

I guess it’s due to a common annoyance and people are looking for a solution, but it still amazes me that a video as uninteresting as this one has over 5300 views (at the time of this posting).

Basically, it is a piece of paper rolled into the shape of a funnel and inserted into a jar with some fruit in it. Obviously, the fruit attracts the flies — they find their way in but can’t get back out. It’s pretty funny that a trap as simple as this works so well. The next time you have a problem with fruit flies, try this out and you’ll be surprised!

Black Friday, iPhone 4S, Shake Weight

As evidenced in the latest “The CHAO TIMES” VLOG below (TCT), this year’s “Black Friday” was pretty uneventful. Instead of fighting the crowd and getting pepper sprayed on Black Friday, one of my clones came over and helped me and my daughter rake leaves. Dad also got a nice surprise from the FedEx delivery guy… the iPhone 4S! Both mom and dad are officially smart phone users now! As for the shake weight reference, I included it in the clip just because it’s amusing to me how suggestive this piece of equipment is.

MIENcredible Hulk 2

Just over a couple months ago, as I was wrapping up a shot for a different video, the idea for MIENcredible Hulk just came to me out of nowhere so I shot it really quickly. Here’s the first MIENcredible Hulk video. After I put that first video together, it occurred to me that this character might be something worth exploring. It’s fun, creative, quick to shoot, and serves as sort of a test bed for visual effects.

The idea behind each clip or episode is to have the MIENcredible Hulk display a specific mutant super power. Unlike the Incredible Hulk, MIENcredible Hulk doesn’t have to become angry to unleash his powers. When he’s provoked and becomes angry, however, his size and powers increases, just like the Incredible Hulk. Below is the second MIENcredible Hulk video.

Behind the Scenes:
This video is a combination of 3 separate clips; 1) me walking into the garage and closing it, 2) me “busting” through the garage with the door wide open, and 3) a 3D version of the garage door broken into pieces using Lightwave 3D.
